Day at The Museum
***UPDATE 4/29/2025: The students' movement is much more random when they are outside the teacher's radius now. Also the game has a fantastic new song, courtesy of Zac McMillan, whose last name I misspelled on the in-game credits screen!***
Made for Godot Wild Jam #80. Theme: Controlled Chaos. I opted to do the "show don't tell" wildcard so I won't describe gameplay mechanics down here.
My name is Stuart! This is my first Godot Wild Jam! Also my first finished project with Godot!
I wrote all the code, made most of the sound effects and drew almost all of the UI assets. I also did the terrible trap remixes in the soundtrack.
+ The really excellent 2D assets came from LimeZu.
+ Character Sprites made with a (non AI) sprite generator by https://0a3r.itch.io/modern-interiors-character-generation-tool.
+ The mouse and key icons are from ButtonPress by https://v3x3d.itch.io/.
+ Font is Basic Pup by emhuo.
+ I made many of the sound effects using jsfxr. I am especially proud of the mwah mwahh mwah mwah mwaaaah one that plays during the teaching sequences.
+ The bus and footsteps sound effects are from NOX SOUNDS.
+ The song on the title screen is a remix of "Promenade-Gnomus" from Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest Mussorgsky. The midi files are courtesy of Bernd Krueger.
+ UPDATE: Zac, the number one playtester for this game, made a song timed to the main game loop called 8 Bit Chaos. Play the game to hear it!
If I had had more time (or more skill and experience, which would have created more time) I would have liked to rework the student movement code and procedurally generate the museum. I also planned to add AoE style actions but decided against it in favor of spending more time on UI polish.
This game dedicated to the Mallinckrodt Academy of Gifted Instruction preschool class of 2024-2025, who went on a surprising number of field trips this year. They all managed to get on the bus home every time.

The remix of Pictures at an Exhibition SLAPS.
It was super fun to make even if learning the basics of cakewalk took up an enormous amount of time!
I can't believe how well Musorgsky works with a dank beat :D
